Family, Who are they?

3 August 2009 2 Comments

When you here the word family, what is the image that comes into your mind? Well, I bet that depends on how you were raised. But, most people will tell you that it consists of a mother, father and siblings. Now, the size of your extended family depends on how many brothers and sisters you have as well as the number of children you have. There are also many other types of families, such as single mothers and fathers, divorced families, and the widowed. So as you can see families come in many different sizes and types.

During your life you will have different relationships with your family members. Sometimes relationships go smoothly, and all is fine, but when there is a difference of opinion about any subject matter, this can put a strain on those relationships. Especially when it comes to the subject of faith in Jesus Christ. This is what is happening right now in my wife’s family. Our faith is in Jesus and Him alone, nothing or anyone is above this relationship. Other family members can not understand why we believe this way. Why we can not come around to the way the believe. They even told us we are challenging their faith by wanting them to believe the way we believe. They told us to get into the real world. We told them God is real and He is living in our hearts. Needless to say this has caused tension and heartache between certain family members.

Now let me tell you of another family that you may have never thought existed. But, first let me give you the words of Jesus in Mark 3:35. This is when Jesus’ family was outside seeking to speak with him, and His mother, brothers and sisters told his disciples they wanted to see and speak to Him. Jesus replied to them, “Who are My mother and My brother?” And looking about at those sitting in a circle around Him, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! Whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother.” Jesus made it plain, His family is anyone who is committed to doing God’s will and following Him.

Before you can get into God’s family there is only one act you must do. You must accept the sacrifice God offered for the sins of the world. That was His one and only Son Jesus, who willingly went to the cross and became the perfect sacrifice. Jesus also said in John 14: 6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.” Once you believe this by faith, Jesus will come and live in your heart and He will give you a new heart and new desires, and at that instant you become a Child of God. You have a new family.

In this family, you will find some of the same problems as in your earthly family, but the main difference is you will know that God loves you unconditionally, and you will find other believers in your new family who truly love you unconditionally as well. God is waiting on you. He is waiting to adopt you as His child, so you can become a child of the King. You will have privileges in the Kingdom of Heaven, just because you accepted this free gift of love and salvation.

Why don’t you join my family and let me become your brother. I hope you can see how much God and I love you and want you to join His family and become a Child of God.

Wonderful message, David. I am thankful for my earthly family, but praise God that He has made me a child of His and a member of God’s family.

    God bless.

God bless you, David! I’m so glad to be part of God’s Family and to have you as my brother! Please, don’t get discouraged about your earthly family, I have similar problems with my own at the moment, but isn’t it wonderful that we do have each others? We are One Family of One blood, the blood of Jesus that has washed our sins away and has made us One in heart, One in mind, and One in spirit! Praise God! Count on me, brother, for as long as the Lord gives me the grace, you will always find me here to pray for you and be by your side! You’re not alone.
