Forgiveness: The key to your healing (Part 2)

What does this life in Jesus Christ look like. First and foremost we are to LOVE one another as God loves us. When you love someone you do not hold a grudge and hatred for them, but you will forgive them for hurting you. Here are some examples. When you were a child did you do things that hurt your parents, of course you did, so did I, but they did not say to you, I will never love you again. They said the were disappointed and then told you they loved you. Or, if you are a parent has your children done anything that would cause you not to love them, of course not. This does not mean you will not discipline them when they do wrong. The love you have for them will still be in your heart. Now what about your best friends, if they are truly a best friend you will forgive them for treating you wrong.

This is how God loves us and even loved us before we asked Him into our hearts. Colossians 3: 12-14 says, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” So based on God’s word we are to forgive one another, this is also what is in the Lord’s prayer, forgive us our trespasses (sins) as we forgive those who trespasses (sins) against us.

You can see there is a connection to what we do on earth, as children of God, and what God will do for us in heaven. Then there has to be a connection between what we forgive and what God will forgive. And if we are to receive blessings from God in Heaven, then we need to forgive those who have wronged us, before God will forgive us. Because based on the Scripture we read in Luke 6, Jesus said the measure you use, will be measured to you. Do you want God to judge you the way you are judging others, do you want God to condemn you the way you condemn others, do you want God to give to you the way you give to others. If you don’t want this to happen, you need to forgive anyone who has wronged you. Or if you have wronged someone you need to ask them for forgiveness. But you need to get right with God right now. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Also in Mark 11: 25 & 26, Jesus said, “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” WHen you forgive someone, you are not giving them a license to abuse you, all you are doing is giving up the right for vengence against them and leaving this up to God.

So FORGIVENESS is the key to your healing, and this healing is jsut as much spiritual as it is physical.

Take what Jesus said about himself in Matthew 11:28-30 as your invitation to a journey of Peace and knowing God has forgiven you.
“Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Now, I want you to go to the feet of Jesus and let him take those hurts and turn them into something beautiful. When you do this you will be free and released from your prison that you have voluntarily put yourself in. But, I want you to pray this scripture to God first: Psalm 139: 23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me, and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Jesus is waiting to heal your broken heart and spirit.

Wonderful food for thought, David! Jesus does want to heal our broken hearts and spirits, and forgiveness is certainly a key to our healing!

As I was reading the above, I thought: Forgiveness also takes faith!
Jesus didn’t wait for the resurrection to forgive the Roman soldiers who killed Him. (Luke 23:34) We can forgive, even while we are still waiting to see the changes that are needed.

Forgiveness is not a compromise with evil. Forgiveness is seeing past the faults and wrongs of the moment; and it’s believing God for what we cannot see yet, it’s having faith. And the reward of faith will be seeing what we have believed in, in His time.

It’s fine to hate the sin, God also hates it! But He unconditionally loves the sinner, and we must strive to do likewise. When we forgive, it doesn’t mean we’re accepting the wrongs of this world. It means we’re believing in God’s power to overcome them.
