Peace that Passes all Understanding!

Which of these two scenarios would you consider to be the more peaceful. A man on a sailboat in the middle of the lake with a clear blue sky, a gentle breeze and the water smooth and clear. Or a mother bird sitting on her baby chicks in her nest on a oceanside rocky cliff in the middle of a gale storm wind. I would say that you picked the first scene as the most peaceful. Well, now consider the person in the sail boat. He is going through a divorce, and he is now sick with cancer, and he has no one to talk to and no where to turn. Would you consider him to be at peace with himself or his circumstances. Now think about the mother bird’s baby chicks who are safe and content in the safety of the nest with their mother shielding them from the storm. Are they at peace with their mother on them protecting them. I would say you would now pick the mother bird and her chicks. The chicks are at peace as long as their mother is protecting them, and the mother bird is at peace in the safety of the nest that she built in the rocks as she peers out into the storm.

What I am saying with these illustrations, is that being at peace has nothing to do with your location and not even in the circumstances you find yourself in. It is easy to be at peace when you are healthy and things are going fine. But let a storm come into your life, such as cancer, the death of a loved one (child or parent) and your world will be turned upside down.

So where do you find peace in the troubled times, how can you be at peace when you are battling cancer, or a death. You will not find it in the world or in your possessions. You will only find it in the person of Jesus, the one and only Son of the living God. Jesus said in John 14: 27,” Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let if be afraid.” This peace that Jesus gives to a person who turns from his own way and opens his heart to the Love of Jesus, will receive His peace. A peace that passes all understanding. This kind of peace can Love anyone and forgive anyone, because once you have accepted Jesus’ Love and have been saved from destruction, and sin, nothing else matters. For this reason someone who has cancer can praise the Lord and Love God with their whole heart, because they know that Jesus will be there to go through this time of trial and heartache with them. This kind of peace can only come from a relationship with the Creator God and His one and only Son, Jesus.

I don’t know if you have ever heard of the contemporary praise song, “Praise You in the Storm”, by Casting Crowns. This song says that no matter what is going on in your life, if you praise God while in the midst of the storm, he will see you through to the other side. So my prayer for you is that you come to the saving knowledge that Jesus offers and let him come into your heart and let Him give you His peace. I would like for you to go to a Bible or go to Biblegateway.com and read Revelation 3: 20. Jesus is waiting for you, will you let Him in and be at peace.
