Spiritual Fatherhood: Serving or Seeking
Have you ever heard someone tell you that they are burned out or they are tired from their work and serving. I have heard this many times and I have even experienced it myself. I will try to show you how you can keep this from happening to you, by following the words of my Master and Savior Jesus.
In Matthew chapter 6, verses 19-24 & 33, we read, “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is bad, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is! No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.“
In the scripture Jesus is telling us that if we are working for our own benefit and all we want is treasure of this world, we are only serving what we can earn ourselves, which will be destroyed by rust or stolen by thieves, or eaten by moths. These are all worldly possessions which will not last, they are only for a season. But, Jesus is telling and showing us to look at Him for our treasures, and come into His glorious light where darkness can not reside. Jesus is the light of the world and he will show you and give you a new heart and new desires, if you will only trust and follow him.
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Matthew 6:33.
Jesus said you can not serve both God and money. What is meant here, is either you are working for the worlds possessions, such as money, cars, homes, that next high paying job, with all the perks. Or you are serving God, putting Himn first. Then Jesus said Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. Jesus is telling us to put Him first and Seek him and live for His Kingdom and then He would give us all that we need. Notice I did not say God would give us all that we wanted.
I have noticed that most Christians today are to busy serving God that they do not have the time to Seek Him. I believe Jesus is telling us to stop all the self serving in the Church today, and slow down and seek Him with all our hearts and put Him first in our lives. Get to know Jesus on a personal basis, become God’s friend, spend time with Him, read His word, the Bible, He tells us all we need to know about Him and How we can become His friend. He is waiting for you with open arms, waiting to show you His perfect will for your life.
Once you begin to Seek Him with your whole heart and He becomes the most important person in your life, then He will start to show you how to serve Him. Then and only then does the serving become something you desire to do, because you will be serving Him in a way that is unique for you. Now this type of serving does not become an obligation, but and opportunity to get to know Him and serve Him in a personal way. This is when you will start to find the ultimate goal of life, which is to pursue God with your whole heart.
So, stop serving God in order to try to earn His favor, this will only lead to heartache and disappointment. Start seeking Him with your whole heart and he will reveal how you are to serve Him. Because when you are serving Him in accordance to His will, then you will never burn out or get tired, because He will sustain you in all your efforts.
Prayer: Father God help us to always seek You first and put You first in our lives. Help us in this journey of life to live for you. Guide us into your perfect will, so we can serve you with all our hearts for the rest of our lives. Thank you Jesus for loving us and showing us how to seek You and Your Kingdom. Thank you for Your precious sacrifice You made on the cross, so I can live with You for eternity.
